2014 Linux Symposium, July 14-16

Dale Hamel

Dale Hamel is a recent graduate from the University of Manitoba Computer Science program. He is currently employed at Shopify as a member of the core Operations team. Most of the work he has done in the past few years has been based around Linux, dealing with a lot of systems and network administration. In past jobs, he has worked heavily with Amazon Web Services and cloud computing, but now also works with a lot of baremetal datacenters.

Having worked for larger companies like Blackberry (formerly R.I.M.) and several startups, Dale prefers to work in smaller, trendier environments with a lot of creative freedom.

In his spare time, he likes to tinker with Raspberry Pi devices, and as a media center hobbyist with a long history in XBMC and has recently converted to a bit of a Plex acolyte. He is the original creator and lead developer of the RasPlex project, which has been quite popular as a mediacenter for the Raspberry Pi.
