Operating your own GSM/GPRS network using OpenBSC

Harald Welte (laforge@gnumonks.org)

The talk will show it is possible to run a completely autonomous and self-contained GSM/GPRS mobile communications network based on the Free Software components OpenBSC (OsmoNITB), OsmoSGSN, OpenGGSN, OsmoBTS and OsmoPCU.

Given the enormous complexity of mobile network architecture, protocols, interfaces and the mere number of software packages involved, I will only briefly state what can be done, and have no chance to actually illustrate how to do that :/

OpenBSC based networks are operated world-wide by research institutes, rural cellular operators as well as for private/corporate communications.
