Supporting Linux in Higher Education

Rohit Kumar Mehta (rohitm@engr.uconn.edu)

Linux is of tremendous value to both research and education, and therefore has a critical place in the university setting. There are many challenges that make supporting Linux difficult, but efforts are made every day to address these. Linux already has a strong presence on university servers, but the goal of this BOF will be to discuss the challenges of supporting Linux for end-users, on workstations and remote-access SSH systems.

Technical details can be shared about efforts at supporting Linux in various departments at the University of Connecticut. Some issues that can be discussed are: installation, configuration management, authentication, directory services, software installation, storage and backup.
