Art CannonArt Cannon brings over thirty years of varied experience in services, sales, manufacturing engineering, development, education and manufacturing. In his current position as the Open Source Systems Manager for IBM Global Services, he provides strategic and tactical program development, planning, execution, guidance and support to ensure that policy objectives linked to IBM business goals are met, including compliance with specific legal requirements, relative to Open Source and Standards. Art has been following Linux since September 11th, 1992. Beginning in May of 1998 Linux became his core focus, where he has acted as a strategist, evangelist and architect. In the fall of 1998, it was Art who proposed that IBM support four distributions of Linux worldwide. His focus from 2000 through 2004 was the Linux desktop and more recently the Open Source software stack. Since 2006 he has governed a process for use of Open Source Software in Global Services, on customer projects, use internal to IBM and on personal time. |
