Virtualization for Aggregation Scaling up with scale out hardware

Currently, the majority of discussions around server virtualization focus on consolidation, which occurs when a physical server is partitioned to run multiple virtual or logical servers. However, a new server virtualization paradigm is emerging – server virtualization for aggregation. Server virtualization for aggregation occurs when multiple physical servers are combined and appear to function as a single virtual system. This presentation will teach attendees the main differences between server virtualization for consolidation and server virtualization for aggregation and will demonstrate how running aggregated virtual servers in a Linux environment can result in as many or more efficiencies as consolidated servers – which is especially relevant for compute or memory intensive applications common in the high performance computing market. Attendees will learn about the capabilities and benefits of server virtualization for aggregation and be provided with best practices and real-world examples of how the technology can most efficiently be utilized when running Linux.
