Benchmarking Linux Distributions

Randy Appleton (rappleto@nmu.edu)

People don't run Linux; they run some particular distribution of Linux. These distributions differ in many ways, most importantly in speed of operation. However, there has been no serious work on measuring which distribution are faster at which tasks. We have been given a grant to measure the speed of several distributions. We'd like to describe what we intend to measure, why those things are important, and seek feedback.
