CostsWe understand that budgets are limited this year and would like to do as much as possible to help you make the most of the Linux Symposium and have come up with some good ways to keep the spending under control. Most of this information is available in other locations on the site but we have tried to pull it all together as a Costs FAQ to help you with your planning. Conference FeesWe have always had a staged pricing to encourage people to register as early as possible. For those coming in from the USA and Europe we have also added approximate currency conversions to show that you can take advantage of the newly weakened Canadian dollar as well.
These prices do not include the 5% GST (Goods and Services Tax) and Quebec Residents (or if you pay on-site) are also subject to an additional 7.5% Provincial sales tax. HotelsWe have managed to get one of the best hotel discounts so far in Montreal at the four-star Holiday Inn Midtown and we also turned down any compensation in favour of getting our attendees the lowest possible rate. A variety of rooms are available at 109.99CAD / 91USD / 70EUR per night for two people. We are also helping people who wish to share hotel costs for the week get in touch with each other to make costs even more affordable. There is also a full page on Travel & Hotel. Carpooling to MontrealMontreal has the advantage of being within reasonable driving distance for much of the east coast and we expect a fair number of people to drive to the event. If you are driving send us an email and we'll help find you some passengers to share the costs with. If you're looking for a ride let us know that too and we'll do our best to find you a driver. Presenters & ExceptionsIf you have a paper accepted you do not pay for registration. If you are hosting a Mini-Summit or a tutorial you also do not pay for registration. If you are hosting a BoFS (Bird of a Feather Session) you do need to register to attend the Symposium as normal. What happens if I need to cancel my registration? We have moved the no-refund deadline to July 1st. If you need to cancel after July 1st you can have your registration saved for the 2010 Symposium or transfer it to another attendee. I am bringing my significant other along to Montreal, can they come along? We welcome your significant other at the Symposium and the special events, if you are presenting they are welcome to attend your presentation but if they wish to attend other presentations we ask that they register as an attendee as well. |
