Containers checkpointing and live migration
Container-type virtualization is an ability to run multiple isolated sets of processes, known as containers, under a single kernel instance (as distinct from paravirtualization). Such isolation enables to save the complete state of (i.e. to checkpoint) a container and later to restart it, possibly on a different machine -- the process known as live migration, which is mostly used for cluster load balancing and HA. These features are presented as implemented in OpenVZ Linux kernel.
Attendees will learn the overall design, some implementation details and complexities of checkpointing/restart, and possible future optimizations, as well as some typical applications of the technology. Basic Linux kernel knowledge is a plus.
