Distributed Cluster Computing on Cell/PS3Akira Tsukamoto (akira-t@s9.dion.ne.jp)The PS3 BOF will discuss topics of Folding@Home distributed computing for PS3, status of PS3 patches included in mainline kernel and Internet booting technology enhanced by Cell. Cell CPU is designed as a heterogeneous multi-core processor which consists of one hyper threaded Power Processor Element (PPE), PowerPC compatible core, and seven Synergistic Processor Elements (SPEs), vector processing cores. The Folding@home project which was introduced on March ‘07 is one of an application to utilize the Cell architecture for PS3 users. From programmer perspective, PS3 Linux is the only environment providing to practice distributed parallel programming. When circumstances allow, discussion will involve booting PS3 Linux through Internet with SPE assisted user space device driver. | |||||
