PlanetLab: A Facility to Introduce Novel Networking Technologies into the InternetMarc Eric Fiuczynski (mef@cs.princeton.edu)PlanetLab (www.planet-lab.org) is a testbed, community, and a software platform. The testbed currently consists of 750+ Linux-VServer based machines located @ 300+ sites in 30+ countries. Its community, consisting of distributed systems researchers, uses this facility to deploy cool technologies into the Internet that amongst other things have mitigated the Slashdot effect, robustly deliver Fedora Core 6 ISOs @ sustained 1Gps+ rates, scales RSS feeds, etc. All in all, PlanetLab enables hundreds of experiments, which on a daily basis transmit approx. 5TB of data while communicating with 1M unique real users. Finally, the platform is also a continually evolving, open source software to manage distributed virtualization. Join the BoFS to: get onto the testbed, leverage "powered by PlanetLab" technologies, help improve the platform, etc. | |||||
