Kernel Performance - History and Future

Linux kernel has been evolving very rapidly and progressing at an astonishing speed. Kernel change rate sustained at average 2,000 patches a month currently. It is inevitable that performance and scalability for various kernel components were inadvertently affected at such change rate. In this BOF, we will present a brief of history on the kernel performance in the early development period of 2.6. We will discuss the motivation behind the "Linux Kernel Performance Project". The core discussion will be centered on ideas to improve various kernel subsystems. This is an opportunity for the Linux kernel developers to brainstorm on new ideas. We would also like to take the opportunity to discuss how the community can work together and how the current LKP benchmark infrastructure can be improved to maximizing data utilization for the community.
