Open Source Graphic Drivers - They Don't Kill Kittens

This talk is a light hearted look at the state of current open source graphics drivers and explains also why closed source drivers are in fact responsible for death of a lot of small cute animals :-)

This talk will discuss how the current trend of using closed source graphics drivers is affecting the Open source community, users are claiming that they are running an open source operating system which then contains a 1 MB binary kernel module and 10MB user space module...

This talk will look at the current state of open source graphics drivers and vendors and how they are interacting with the kernel and X.org communities at this time (this changes a lot). It will investigate methods for producing open source graphics drivers such as the r300 project and a maybe soon to be started NVIDIA reverse engineering project.
