For Linux to be successful on mobile clients, Linux laptop battery life must be compelling. To achieve and maintain a strong battery life story, the Linux community must be able to make reliable comparisons. Linux developers must be able to measure the effect of their changes on battery life. Linux customers must be able to evaluate the battery life of competing vendor offerings. Linux users must be able to maximize the battery life of the systems they have. This paper describes tools and techniques for measuring Linux laptop battery life to achieve these goals. The paper includes measurement results showing where the power goes, and now selected systems and configurations differ. |
