Using Cogito and GIT

This tutorial is meant to introduce the audience to the basic usage of the popular version control system Git, while also explaining its guiding design principles and major architecture points; at the end of the tutorial you will be able to use Git for the day-to-day development work while understanding the basic things going on under the hood. A previous version control experience (CVS, SVN, or such) will is recommended but not strictly required.

The tutorial will explain the main commands of the easy-to-use Cogito frontend (involving cloning, staying up to date, committing, simple merging and basic branch management), while Git commands will be presented for the more advanced topics (bisect, cherrypicking, packs management, ...). The tutorial will also briefly introduce the StGit tool designed for quilt-like patches management on top of Git trees. The ending part of the tutorial can be steered to whichever direction based on the attendees' interests or the architecture and operation can be also described in more detail.
