A. The first Linux Symposium took place in July 1999 as a place for the core developers to get together to discuss technical issues without the overhead of a marketing driven trade show style event.
A. Many of our attendees are kernel hackers; but the event is for all active Linux enthusiasts; hackers, and system administrators.
A. For the first five years we limited attendance to 500 people. For 2004 we decided to expand this to 750 people with the addition of more space and it worked out well.

A. To encourage people to register early we stage the pricing. Before March 1st the general registration price is 300.00 CAD and the student registration price is 149.00 CAD. On or before May 1st the general registration price is 350.00 CAD and the student registration is 200.00 CAD. On or before July 1st the general registration is 500.00 CAD and the student registration is 250.00 CAD. After July 1st the general registration price increases to 750.00 CAD and the student price to 275.00 CAD. As you can see, we would very much like people to register early, it allows us to produce various items in advance and helps eliminate the last minute rush to get things finished.

A. You can send an email to registration@OURDOMAIN.org and they will be able to help you out.
A. If it is before July 1st we can give a refund. After July 1st we have already printed all of our materials and you will need to find someone to transfer your registration to. If you registered early this is usually not too difficult as the registration price after July 1st is twice that of the early registration.
A. It is our custom to issue guest passes to visiting spouses if they're only dropping in to see you while you're at the event. The Symposium is right in the heart of the Ottawa tourist area with many museums, galleries, and other organized tours and ample shopping and dining within several minutes walk.
A. In Ontario (the provice that Ottawa is in) the legal drinking age is 19.
