Linux Cluster Infrastructure

In the 2.7/2.8 kernel cycle we expect to see clustering emerge as a core Linux feature, including kernel VFS support for clustered filesystems, cluster infrastructure such as cluster volume management, distributed locking, quorum, cluster membership and fencing, and user space support such as graphical configuration and management interfaces. There are several fullblown cluster filesystems now ready for submission, including GFS, Lustre and soon, OCFS2. But there are infrastructure questions to sort out, and the time to sort them out is now.

Let's get together and make sure that Linux 2.8 is a true cluster operating system!
