ISO Linux StandardizationA meeting of people interested in or involved with standardizing Linux, in particular in the scope of ISO JTC1 SC22. All are welcome, but those involved with the Free Standards Group/LSB, POSIX, and ISO JTC1 SC22 are particularly encouraged to participate. Members of the Canadian Advisory Committee for JTC1 SC22 will be present. Topics of discussion will naturally revolve around Linux standardization, including the importance of it, methods to approach it, and its present situation in ISO and relative to the POSIX standard. Standardization is a critical issue for acceptance of Linux in many corporate and government environments, and is also an important tool for developing a consistent platform in the long term. The Linux community needs to support and encourage the development of proper standards while still allowing for the traditional innovation and freedoms associated with open source software development. |
