RAS: Efficient Data Transfer Mechanisms for Kernel to User space Richard J Moore (richardj_moore@uk.ibm.com)

This BoF following on from the presentation of relayfs and the RAS BoFs of 2004. We have a number of kernel-user data transfer mechanisms that ure used by monitoring facilities (e.g. trace, logging, systems mgmt) that are not essential to the function being monitored. The mechanism employed has to be efficient and have an implementation that is as non-invasive as possible.

This BoFs is a opportunity to: 1) discuss and compare the various the technologies that play into this space; 2) hear the latest status and WIP with respect to these technologies. (We hope to hear from both relayfs and netlink); 3) discuss instrumentation techniques and issues especially those that relate to source vs binary instrumentaiton. 4) opportunity for various players in this space to collaborate or merge. 5) Whether there are clients of these technologies that are likely to help drive adoption of one or more of them into the 2.7 kernel.

The BoF will be chaired by Richard J Moore (kprobes/dprobes). Karim Yaghmour has agreed to speak on LTT. Hubertus Frank will demonstate the use of relayfs by CKRM.
