Read-Copy Update Experiences and Future
Read-Copy Update has been a part of the kernel
since 2.5.43 and is currently used by System V IPC,
module unloading, IP route cache, directory entry
cache, and IPMI handler cleanup. In this BOF, we will
share experiences with and thoughts on RCU in the
Linux kernel. Issues of interest for this BOF include
impact of RCU on the kernel (scheduler issues, delayed
freeing of objects etc.), observations on usage models,
thoughts on additional uses of RCU (brlock removal,
lockfree mount hashtable, lockfree tasklist etc.)
and reducing general locking overhead. We also
brainstorm on any desired changes to the RCU
infrastructure itself. The target audience is linux kernel
developers and performance engineers. Contact
