InfiniBand Linux System Software - Architecture, Performance, and applicability to existing and future TCP/IP offload devices
The goal of this BOF is to discuss the software architecture and performance data for the InfiniBand Linux kernel software contained in the Sourceforge InfiniBand open source project. The discussion will focus on the network and IPC stacks, consisting of IPoIB, sockets direct, and high performance message passing API access. Performance data will be presented that demonstrates the benefits of sockets direct and high performance message passing vs. traditional TCP/IP based networks.
We will then discuss how the IB networking and IPC stacks can be re-used/extended to support current and future Ethernet based TCP/IP offload devices. This includes TCP/IP offload devices that support the emerging RDMA over TCP specification. The target audience for this BOF is Linux kernel developers and anyone interested in Linux InfiniBand S/W and performance data or Linux S/W architecture for TCP/IP offload devices.
